Position Summary
The Healthy Youth Coordinator – Youth Engagement and Advocacy (THAR) supports the implementation of Teen Health Arkansas’s youth leadership and advocacy programming across the state. Reporting to the Teen Health Arkansas Deputy Director, this role works directly with young people and community partners to strengthen youth leadership, advocacy skills, and civic engagement.
The Coordinator will support the development and coordination of the Arkansas Youth Council (ARKCouncil) and the Arkansas Youth Action Network, helping create opportunities for young people to shape programs, policies, and systems that affect youth health and well-being. This role will assist in organizing youth-led events, leadership trainings, advocacy activities, and statewide youth engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Engagement and Leadership Programming
- Support the development and coordination of the Arkansas Youth Council (ARKCouncil), helping recruit, engage, and mentor youth leaders across the state.
- Assist with the development of the Arkansas Youth Action Network, connecting youth advocates and youth-serving organizations working toward shared advocacy goals.
- Support youth leadership development activities, including trainings, retreats, and workshops that strengthen youth advocacy and leadership skills.
- Help facilitate youth discussions that identify priorities affecting youth health, education, and community well-being.
Youth Advocacy Support
Assist in organizing youth advocacy opportunities, such as:
- Youth house meetings
- Advocacy trainings
- Legislative visits at the Arkansas State Capitol
- Youth advocacy retreats
Additional Youth Advocacy Support Tasks include:
- Supporting youth leaders in learning about policy processes and how to effectively engage with decision-makers.
- Assisting youth in developing messaging and advocacy priorities related to youth well-being.
Partnership and Network Development - Build relationships with youth-serving organizations, schools, community groups, and local partners across Arkansas.
- Support the growth of the Arkansas Youth Action Network by connecting organizations and youth advocates working on youth-focused issues.
- Represent Teen Health Arkansas at youth events, community meetings, and collaborative initiatives.
Program Operations and Logistics
Assist in coordinating program logistics, including:
- Meeting and event planning
- Youth travel arrangements
- Materials and technology needs
- Program scheduling and communications
- Supporting the management of program timelines and deliverables
- Ensuring programming is inclusive, youth-friendly, and culturally responsive
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Assist with collecting and tracking program participation data and feedback
- Support the preparation of reports for Teen Health Arkansas leadership, partners, and funders
- Maintain documentation of youth engagement activities and outcomes
Other Duties as Assigned
- Support additional program activities and organizational events as requested
- Provide general program support during non-training periods, including resource development, partner follow-up, and event assistance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, youth development, political science, education, social work, or a related field required
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience supporting youth programs, community engagement initiatives, or advocacy work
- Experience working directly with youth populations is preferred
- Ability to travel frequently across Arkansas and the US Southeast for youth programming, meetings, and events
- Occasional overnight travel may be required

- Strong facilitation and communication skills when working with youth audiences
- Ability to build relationships with youth leaders and community partners
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines
- Understanding of youth development and leadership models
- Experience supporting youth advocacy or civic engagement initiatives
- Familiarity with Arkansas communities, youth organizations, and policy landscape
- Experience supporting grant-funded programs and reporting requirements
Compensation and Benefits
- $50,000 to $60,000 annual salary (commensurate with experience)

Process
